Under the threat of rain, seniors from regional high schools met in a battle of North vs. South at Mandarin High School. The North prevailed with a score of 21-0. Schools represented include Englewood, Baldwin, Fernandina Beach, First Coast, Forrest, Stanton, Trinity Christian, Eagle's View, Raines, White, Jackson, Lee, Yulee, Parker, Episcopal, Ribault, West Nassau, Paxon, Bishop Snyder, Mandarin, Wolfson, Mandarin Christian, Orange Park, Providence, St. Augustine, Fleming Island, Clay, Sandalwood, Nease, Bartram Trail, Middleburg, Menendez, Creekside, Ridgeview and St. Johns Country Day.
Approximately 150 hopefuls turned out for an open tryout attempting to make the roster of the Jacksonville Sharks, the new Arena Football 1 league team Friday morning January 8, 2010.

The Arena Football League's Jacksonville Sharks coaching staff was on hand at Plantation Park in Julington Creek for a series of speed, agility and football skills tests as nearly 400 athletes signed on to try out for the newly-reformed professional football team. The AFL opens its season in April.

This week included several rookies assisting in a food distribution, a blood drive featuring former Jaguars player Richard Collier and several players chaperoning more than 70 children during a shopping spree, which the players helped purchase gift cards for, at a local Walmart.

Former Interlachen High cross country and track star Jeremy Criscione dominated the field by winning the 30th annual Mandarin 10km Saturday morning. Tiffany Beeche of Yulee won the women's race. In a separate 5km, Zachary Perry, 15, won with Kim Scurti, 41 winning the women's race.

The Portrait Society of America in conjunction with UNF sponsored a two-day event held in UNF's Fine Art Center on November 12th & 13th 2009 that featured a demonstration by Jacksonville's world renowned portraitist Ann Manry Kenyon. The event was attended by more than eighty artist that traveled from throughout the Southeast. On the second day Ms. Kenyon along with Tallahassee painter-sculptor Edward Jonas and UNF professor of art Kyle Keith conducted a workshop. Florida 4-H 100th Anniversary Gala

Florida 4-H Youth Development program held a formal gala to celebrate its 100th anniversary on Saturday, November 14th at 6:00 pm at the Embassy Suites-Baymeadows. The Florida 4-H Youth Development program began in 1909 with corn club for boys in Alachua, Marion and Bradford counties by J.J. Vernon, dean of agriculture at the University of Florida. A few years later girls' tomato clubs were organized. Extension work with African Americans in Florida began in 1915 and was headquartered at Florida A & M University. It was a night of awards, auctions, dinner and dancing. This was a fun group of people who have been making a difference for a 100 years!
