Nearly 600 motorcyclists rode 60 miles in the 8th annual motorcycle ride with a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office escort to support Rock and Ride for Daniel. Daniel is a local non-profit that supports programs serving abused, abandoned and emotionally-troubled kids. Rock band Wild Card provided music at Mavericks when the bikers returned for lunch, raffles and a grand prize motorcycle drawing.

2009 Tour de Pain 5K

The second race of the 2009 Tour de Pain took place on Baymeadows Road in the San Jose area of Jacksonville at 7:30 am on August 8th. Over 1,100 runners started the Tour de Pain that consists of 3 races in 24 hours. The first was a 4 mile Jacksonville Beach run on Friday evening, followed by this 5K on Saturday morning then completes with a 1 mile sizzler in downtown Jacksonville on Saturday evening. The Spartan Aquatics Club out of Orange Park got a five wins from 12-year-old Caeleb Dressel, four from 10-year-old Sherridon Dressel and three from 15-year-old Kaitlyn Dressel en route to their first ever River City Swim League Championship this weekend at Cecil Field Aquatics Center. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - July 14, 2009 - First Coast No More Homeless Pets, a nonprofit on Jacksonville's Northside, declared its ARTunleashed fundraising event a success on Monday.
ARTunleashed is an event that constitutes an animal-inspired art show and silent auction.
"We're fully aware of the economic conditions that exist and want to thank our fellow citizens, the Jacksonville business community, and all who were a part of helping Jacksonville's dogs and cats, "commented Raquel McAlee, the event's coordinator.
ARTunleashed raised $23,200, down from $29,069 the year prior."The money raised will go directly to operational costs," Rick DuCharme, the nonprofit's founder, happily said. "Thanks to the generosity of so many we'll be able to perform 460 surgeries."
Maggie Hilliard, Amanda Johnston, and Mark Wilson won first, second and third place respectively in the professional category as well as $1000, $500, and $250 dollars, respectively, in prizes. The winning student artist was Jeremiah Clark who took home $250.
Honors were also given to professional artists: Thomas Pierson, Jenny Henley, Malicia Miller and to student artists: Claudia Burgi and America Strandfield.

A bunch of friends got together again and headed over to Cheers in Mandarin. It is a safe, cheap, fun way to unwind in the middle of the work week. Our karaoke song this week was "Don't Worry, Be Happy". We may not be able to sing, but we know how to laugh and dance!! Ran into several people I have met while photographing. I love it!!
