Clay Builders Go "Green"

Sensing a trend shift in the construction industry in Clay County, Keith David Building Solutions, Inc. of Orange Park has become the first local contractor to be certified in providing “Green” solutions to area construction sites.
“What that means in simple terms is that we are now certified, or have been educated by a set of standards, to offer building designs that have an environmentally friendly aspect,” said Keith David, a partner owner of Keith David Building Solutions, Inc., with Gary Hiers, who, combined, offer nearly 50 years of commercial and residential construction business in the Clay County and north Florida area as well as worldwide as far as Zambia in Africa. “The next generation of buildings to be built will have some components of “Green” construction and we want to be able to offer those components.”
Just a week ago, Hiers passed an extensive certification test offered by Leadership
In Environmental Energy and Design (LEED) which is an internationally recognized certification system that measures how well a building or community offers environmentally favorably energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
“Builders such as ourselves garner points for each aspect of a building plan we offer that has environmentally friendly components with a goal of becoming a, quote, “Green” building,” said Hiers. “One avenue considered in all construction is water retention and potability and LEED gives us ideas to strategically reuse rain water for toilets, fire protection sprinklers and irrigation systems. It’s really just some common sense ideas for old construction problems.”
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

Orange Park Pilot International
1 album
I was honored to be invited to a brunch for Pilot International, held at a local members home.
Throughout the years, Florida Pilots have vigorously supported a wide range of community service projects dealing with brain-related disorders. Many are local projects that meet the unique needs of a particular community. Many are worldwide projects that have been the focus of Pilot International. For example, many Florida Pilot clubs embraced the Pilot International trademarked Brainminders Program. This program educates young children about the importance of brain safety. Teen and elder care programs illustrating the dangers of brain injury are currently being developed. The Florida District is now teaming up with the Epilepsy Foundation who promises to provide bike helmets to be dispensed through our local Pilot Clubs. Project Lifesaver, an international program that provides tracking devices for bracelets worn by Alzheimer's patients and, in some communities, autistic children, is being funded by many local Pilot Clubs who in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies provide this service to a very vulnerable population.
