2009 Business & Career Expo

A business and career expo was held in Mandarin at "Tools For a Time" next to the Winn Dixie at Old St. Augustine Road and Losco Road on Saturday, March 7th. Hundreds attended the flag dedication at noon. The J.S.O. and J.F.R.D color guards were there to honor the event and our fallen heroes of our military, police and fire departments.

MS Day Of Service

MS Day Of Service took place on March 6th at three locations in Jacksonville. Volunteers from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of North Florida were matched up with people in the area living with MS to visit and help with home maintenance projects. This inaugural event was part of MS Awareness Week.

Bolles Boys Win 3A Title

The Bolles boys soccer team finally eradicated the 3A championship monkey off their collective backs with a 2-1 win over Berkeley Prep High Saturday afternoon at the University of Tampa. Scoring for Bolles were Patrick Lanahan and the gamewinner by Jake Keator. Bulldog goalie John Rush made a key save with just 1:17 left on the clock to preserve the first ever state title.

Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at a Mandarin townhome on Friday, February 6. The fire which occurred on Pathwood Way off of Losco Road, destroyed the townhome. No one was injured in the blaze.

Super Sunday 5km

A sunny, cool morning greeted runners at the Jewish Community Center intent on running the Super Sunday 5km prior to partaking in whatever Super Bowl Sunday activities were forthcoming. Winning was Ryan Sloan of Jacksonville in 16 minutes, 17 seconds. Female winner was Episcopal High cross country coach Michelle Krueger in 17:29. There were 136 finishers. Look for more photos in next couple of days. Next up is the Step Up Florida 5km in Green Cove Springs. Step Up is a free 5km staged at Spring Park.

The memorial dedication ceremony for the honorary renaming of Greenland Road in memory of former Mandarin High School Coach J. D. Hall was held at 9:00 a.m., January 21, 2009. In attendance at the Mandarin High School auditorium were City Council member Jack Webb, School Board representative Tommy Hazouri, over fifty of Coach Hall's former players and many of his friends and supporters. A plaque was awarded to Coach Hall's mother, Ms. Banita Hall, and the memorial road sign was unveiled.

The North edged out the South 17-16 in the 20th annual Shrine Bowl at Mandarin High School on January 17, 2009.
The Super 24 blue chip players played in the 20th annual Florida Shrine Bowl All Star Football Game at Mandarin High School. At half time, two Pop Warner teams battled it out.
